No more 'bigging up' my runs in Nairobi

Recently I wrote about running in Nairobi and how I love these times to feel that I live in Africa. The week that I published that post, my buddy and I were spat on while running by a child and then a rock (more like a small boulder!) was thrown at us and bashed my ankle (honestly, I got such a fright, I thought I was bitten by a dog and I was worried that I would be off running for a while, but it is fine, thankfully). Rubbish, right!

Looking forward to some runs on the back road at home in Cove this summer, although, I still get frightened running past cows...really, who knows what they are thinking..?

Anyhow, saying that, my buddy and I ran 19.5km on Sunday; the weather was perfect and I nearly (nearly!) enjoyed all of it!

  1. That's horrible! What was the motivation, just badness? I've had rocks and bricks thrown at me in rough parts of Leeds for no logical reason by delinquents! Nothing's ever hit me I'm glad to say!

  2. Who knows, Paul. Things like that could happen everywhere, just silly individuals. In Kuwait, when I was out for a run with my club, a bunch of children started throwing sand at us. little punks.

  4. So annoying! I've been lucky not to ever have a bad experience like this running in Africa. But your right, it could actually happen anywhere.

  5. Jenna-to be honest, my buddy and I were so surprised it happened we didn't know what to do, we just kept on running. In 3 years, bad luck we had the only two incidents in the same week-weird.

  6. Oh, that's too bad. Glad you're okay. I was just thinking I need to start amping up my running. I might sign up for a race just to get back into it.

P.S. I feel the same way about cows. They aren't as mellow as they look!

  7. Congratulations on your run. I must admit that I prefer cows to flying rocks, but then I guess I am only a "lip service" adventurer :-)

  8. Kids can be so mean (so can some adults, mind you!).

  9. Wow! What adventures you are having! I'm always so impressed with runners because I am so NOT one myself. Scary though, having to watch out for the locals. Stay safe!

  10. How terrible! I probably would have been in a state of shock too. So glad you kept running though and that you're ok. People are incredible sometimes...

  12. Wow, Robyn! Not what you expect when you set out, I'm sure. How peculiar. But congrats on running so far - I am seriously impressed. Thanks so much for joining the POTMC. J x
